NHBC, Brownfield Land Clean-up Seminar

Wed 20 March 2013

British Sugar teamed up with the NHBC (National House Building Council) to deliver a free half day seminar in Leicester on 20th March 2013.

The presentations gave delegates an understanding of the topsoil market, pit falls to avoid and what information regulators need when importing topsoil.

An important element of completing the remediation of Brownfield land is the topsoil used to landscape the site. It is the quality of the gardens and any landscaping that can often have a major impact on the new homeowner’s satisfaction. When importing topsoil it is also important that the source is traceable and analysed. Without these factors the imported soil risks failing NHBC and Local Authority conditions.

The presentations from the seminar are below:

1. Andy Spetch, British Sugar TOPSOIL

2. Tim O'Hare, Sources of Topsoil, pitfalls, sampling & testing

3. Gavin Allsopp, NHBC, NHBC Requirements for Soil Capping Systems

4. Mandy Dennis, Senior Environmental Protection Officer East Northamptonshire C, Local Authority requirements and expectations for capping layers
