British Sugar TOPSOIL:

How do we do it?

  • Annually we recycle 250,000t  of sandy loam topsoil which is delivered with the sugar beets we buy from farmers each year.
  • The soil is washed off the beet
  • Stones >2mm are separated from the topsoil
  • The washed soil is pumped to settlement lagoons during the sugar beet processing  period between September to February
  • The topsoil is excavated from the lagoons during the spring and summer
  • The topsoil is dried over a 2 year period using sunshine and mother nature
  • Once dry the topsoil is put through a screener to blend the sand, silt and clay.
  • Post blending the Topsoil is stored undercover ready for dispatch

Benefits of using Topsoil

Quality product

All TOPSOIL products are developed from the soil that adheres to the sugar beet delivered to British Sugar’s factories and as such comes from the best agricultural soils in the country. After separation, the soil undergoes a gravity settlement stage prior to a lengthy conditioning process and careful storage ready for delivery to you.
